HURRICANE IRMA CLIENT PREPAREDNESS NOTICE

September 6, 2017

We are all keeping a close eye on “Hurricane Irma” which could possibly head for South Florida and other areas later this week. We advise you to watch the weather reports and be prepared for power outages and damages that could occur if the storm comes near this area. Elder Care Services may not be open if the storm comes this way, but we will make every effort to assist our most vulnerable clients in the event of a serious storm. Here’s what we are doing:

  • We are calling every client on the special needs registry to confirm their phone number is still current and advise them on personal preparedness.

  • We will begin making extra meals per day to prepare to send out on Friday with our regular meal deliveries.

  • If we are forced to close, we will follow the State of Florida recommendation.

PREPARE YOURSELF

Make sure you have:

  1. Non-perishable food items that do not need cooking (enough to last at least three days) and a can opener

  2. Plenty of water (enough to last at least three days - fill your bathtub as well as other containers you can drink from)

  3. Flashlights, batteries, and battery powered radio

  4. Prescription medications refills

  5. Fully charged cell phones

  6. A relative or neighbor who can assist you to evacuate

REGISTER FOR SPECIAL NEEDS DIRECTORY

The Leon County Emergency Management Office maintains a Special Needs Registry. If you have requested your case manager to place you on the registry, you should get a phone call a few days before an approaching storm, asking if you want evacuation or other assistance.

If you need to request help, or to get registered, call 850-606-3700 or visit their website WWW.LEONCOUNTYFL.GOV/EI
